Örnsköldsvik lies in the northern part of Sweden and in the heart of the High Coast World Heritage Site with its fascinating natural environment. Those of us who live here cherish our countryside for the many recreation and leisure opportunities it offers. We also consider sport to be an important element of our society. That´s why we invest substantial resources into the development of different sports so that children and young people can enjoy meaningful leisure activities and our elite sportswomen and men can train and compete to their full potential.  We consider ourselves to be a real sports-loving region.  Sports in general have a strong following in the local community.

The Skyttis area which has an international skiing stadium with asphalt tracks for roller skiing and artificial snow facilities, a floorball arena, Astroturf football pitch, athletics facilities and a curling hall. The Swedbank Arena is located by the sea, just a stones throw from the centre. Swedbank Arena holds 7.600 spectators, of which 5.300 seated. The town´s pride, the ice hockey club and elite series team MODO HOCKEY reigns at the Swedbank Arena. The Arena also houses restaurants, bars, conference rooms etc. Örnsköldsvik is also well known as the number  one ski jumping town  in Sweden. Sweden´s ski jumping high school is located in the town. Varvsberget, in the centre of the town has modern ski jumping slopes with artificial surface. At the other side of Varvsberget is the slalom arena, Åsbacken, which is also within walking distance from the town centre. There are   two more downhill areas within the municipality, Bjästabacken and Solberg. Close by Åsbacken is Veckefjärden golf course, a unique naturally beautiful 18 hole course. Paradisbadet, the hyper modern tropical water park is also in the town´s centre and has pools, saunas, spa etc. There are also a number of arenas around the town for figure skating, trotting and riding, snow mobile competitions, multisports etc.
